The Royal Palace of Caserta is a former royal residence in southern Italy, constructed for the Bourbon kings of Naples. It was the largest palace and one of the largest buildings erected in Europe during the 18th century. In 1997, the Palace was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site, described in its nomination as “the swan song of the spectacular art of the Baroque.

Love your dome shots. I’m in awe of how you manage to include both the dome and the context. Very lovely.
this is the link from the top of the stairs where I took the photo from (posted back in May) http://skm1963.wordpress.com/2012/05/05/caserta/
you should be able to join it up in your minds eye, also select the tag Italia and that is quiet a good set. Scott
Great shot; felt like I was standing there, and had to tilt my head to see the dome…. Wonderful optical illusion of a kind. It really draws you in to its depth..!
You are just way too clever….!
Forgot to mention: Your theme has changed?
my theme?
The background, Scott, is white… Didn’t it used to be a different colour? Wasn’t it blue?
Yes your right, I thought you were referring to a photographic theme
Yes I used to like the contrasting colour backgrounds generated by Duotone but now opt for larger images, but those lack archive and tag access – it is all a compromise, I think a bespoke setup is next but time is limited with my primary job, unless this becomes my job versus hobby and that can’t happen for another 2 years.
It works, so all is good… and good to know I’m not going gaga….
Bring on the next 2 years when you’ll probably find yourself even more busy than you are now….!
Wow, what an utterly stunning place, and a magnificent photo of it! You do these internal shots so beautifully, Scott.
many thanks Lorna the buildings speak for themselves dont they
Scott, I’ve done it again… An award for you… Here ’tis:

Blushing and embarrassed – I haven’t effectively responded to you last nomination – but don’t be concerned by my empty words (I promise I will get my act together) I do tend to take more picture at this time of year leaving less admin on the blog. Anyway if I could write like you we would make a good team. I always value you comments and visits to Lathail
and so I thought I would let the writer (as opposed to the photographer – sum up)
What I didn’t know was I was going to find blogging such a joy. I didn’t anticipate blogging would become something that bridged the gulf between people. It has been a very pleasant surprise to find myself inter-connected with individuals whose lives are becoming as real as my friends in my social activities, here in Oz. Just goes to show; hearts unite, regardless of geography…! Carolyn Page – ABC of Spirit Talk
Dear blushing and embarrassed….
Happy Photography…!
If I may, I would suggest that, instead of creating a whole post to say thanks, perhaps you could take a leaf out of another’s book (Mark Armstrong) and go to the awards post and follow his lead… Just a suggestion to a very busy man…. It would be quite acceptable and you will have no guilt to haunt you…. haha….
And, thank you for quoting me… Upon reading the words they have a very pleasant tone that certainly rings true. You happen to be one of those with whom I feel a lovely connection… All the best to you, Scott….
